  • Billy Gene “Bill” Proffer, 85, of Hot Springs Village, passed away Saturday, December 30, 2017 in Hot Springs. He was born April 15, 1932 in Scott City, Missouri to William and Elsie Hargraves Proffer.

    Bill is preceded in death by his parents.

    He is survived by his wife and life-long soulmate, Mary Ann (Hayden) Proffer, of Hot Springs Village; his daughter, Stephanie Jimes and her husband, Jeff, of Farmers Branch, Texas; his brother, Maurice Proffer, of Hollister, Missouri; and other extended family members and friends.

    Bill enjoyed the many opportunities his career allowed him. He was a dedicated employee of 43 years to the Schering-Plough Corporation, serving in Pharmaceutical Sales and Management. Because of his excellent leadership abilities, his employees rewarded him with outstanding performances each year. His capability to train people in the workplace and his encouragement to others to reach their full potential made him very well respected and appreciated wherever he went in life. Bill also enjoyed public speaking and was a member of Toastmasters International. He was also an Army veteran of the Korean War. In his spare time, he enjoyed auctioneering and golfing. He and Mary Ann loved to travel and spending time with the many friends they met while living in various places around the country.

    The family will host a Celebration of Life on Thursday, January 4, 2018 from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. at the Diamante Country Club; 2000 Country Club Dr., Hot Springs Village.

    In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Bill’s name to the charity of your choice.

    Mr. Proffer was loved by all. I worked as a rep at Schering Plough for ten years and was amazed by his leadership. He was one of those great ‘story tellers’. Prayers for you and your family. Bill will be missed. Jim Burket

    Stephanie, I am so sorry for the passing of your father. I have many wonderful memories of fun times with you and your parents. Please tell your mother I have thought of them often. Doug and I visited New York City a few years ago and the I thought about when your mother took us there. We climbed the Statue of Liberty, saw the Rockets, climbed the Impire State Building.     Mary Ann and Stephanie, Jim and I were so saddened to learn of Bill's passing. We have not seen you in years but times remembered were always fun, a lot in part to Billy Gene's fun side. We hope you both are doing well and know we are thinking of you.
